A Holiday Celebration For Every Child
Through the A Holiday Celebration for Every Child Program, Foster and Adoptive Family Services (FAFS) hosts holiday parties and provides holiday gifts for children residing in foster homes.
FAFS’ holiday parties are a major component of this program. These parties are meant to provide children in foster care with the socializing opportunities they need to promote healthy emotional growth. It’s important to remember that, due to their past experiences, the holidays can be a particularly difficult and sad time for these children.
FAFS’ parties offer children the chance to meet other children in care and other foster families in their communities. These can be morale-building encounters that provide them with a sense of belonging that is crucial to their self-esteem. For many children in care, the parties are also the setting for reunions with siblings who reside in separate foster homes.
The effort to accomplish this task each year is daunting. There are over 9,000 children in foster care. Sponsoring holiday parties in 21 counties requires us to reach out to community partners in every county.
